THE POLITICS OF PLEASURE: CARIBBEAN WOMEN WRITING ABOUT SEX

  • MDC Wolfson Campus 300 NE Second Avenue Miami, FL 33132 USA

Caribbean sexuality is both hyper-visible and obscured. Celebrated in popular culture as an important ingredient in Caribbean social life and flaunted to attract tourists to the region, sex is also shrouded in double entendre, secrecy and shame. The Origins Magazine panel will explore the difficulties and delights of Caribbean women writing about sex and desire across generations, cultures, and genres. Writers will discuss strategies that ensure that women’s bodies and sexuality receive rich, serious, diverse, nuanced and varied consideration.
